Acupuncture for muscle knots and tension; does it work?
Acupuncture uses needles of different lengths and as acupuncturists we are trained to insert needles to an appropriate depth. It typically ranges from 0.5 inches and upwards. Some points require shallow insertion and some parts of the body require deeper, such as needles used for jaw tension compared to tight knots in the glutes or leg muscles. The ability to choose the right needle depth and specific point is the exact skill we are trained to do.

Acupuncture needles themselves are designed to be longer and thinner than your average human finger. This design enables them to penetrate the skin and underlying soft tissues and fibres with greater precision and therefore have a greater impact on the fascia and muscle which is causing pain.
